Every PS5 Pro Enhanced Game (So Far)

The highly anticipated launch of Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro in November 2024 has ushered in a new era for console gaming, representing a substantial hardware refresh designed to elevate the immersive experience with higher-fidelity graphics and smoother frame rates. This powerful iteration of the current PS5 generation is immediately identifiable by the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label, signaling games that have been meticulously updated to harness the console’s advanced capabilities. Already, a diverse catalog of titles, both new releases and existing favorites, have received these enhancements through free software updates, promising a visual and performance leap for dedicated PlayStation gamers.

At the core of the PS5 Pro’s formidable power lies an upgraded GPU and groundbreaking AI-driven graphical upscaling technology, PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This innovative combination aims to achieve what PS5 lead architect Mark Cerny described as “Fidelity levels of detail but at double the frame rate,” fundamentally transforming the console gaming paradigm. Unlike the base PS5, where players often faced the dilemma of choosing between visual quality (Fidelity mode) and performance (Performance mode), the Pro strives to deliver a seamless blend of both. Cerny specifically highlighted titles like Marvel’s Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart as exemplifying this ambition, showcasing how the PS5 Pro is “close to doubling the power of PS5” to provide nearly Fidelity-like graphics at Performance frame rates.

The practical impact of these enhancements is vividly demonstrated in several flagship titles. For instance, Remedy’s critically acclaimed ‘Alan Wake 2’ offers distinct PS5 Pro modes: a Quality Mode targeting a sharp 4K resolution at 30 frames per second with full ray tracing, and a Performance Mode achieving 60fps with improved overall image stability, fog, volumetric lighting, and shadow accuracy. Pushing graphical boundaries even further, ‘The Callisto Protocol’ is set to impress with an 8K resolution at 30fps in its Quality Mode, a 4K 60fps Performance Mode boasting full ray tracing, and a balanced 4K 40fps option, making it one of the few titles to reach such high resolutions on the console.

Ray tracing, a cornerstone of next-generation visuals, receives significant boosts across the PS5 Pro Enhanced library. In ‘Gran Turismo 7,’ the faster hardware enables the addition of stunning ray-traced reflections between cars during gameplay while maintaining a buttery-smooth 60 frames per second. Similarly, ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ reaps substantial benefits, allowing for not only superior reflections and a wider variety of reflective surfaces but also more realistic shadow casting. The raw GPU power increase also notably enhances ‘Horizon Forbidden West,’ leading to improvements in lighting, visual effects, and even finer details such as hair and skin in cinematic sequences.

The quest for both visual fidelity and silky-smooth frame rates is evident in other major titles. ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’ delivers noticeably higher resolution across the entire scene, from environmental details to character models. ‘The Last of Us Part II Remastered’ leverages the Pro’s capabilities to target a “super-smooth 60fps,” a crucial improvement for its intense gameplay. Perhaps one of the most comprehensive updates comes to ‘Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart,’ which introduces new graphical modes, including a 60fps ‘Performance Pro’ option with ray tracing and a 30fps ‘Fidelity Pro’ mode for those prioritizing maximum ray-tracing features and visual fidelity. Insomniac Games has even provided granular control over ray-tracing reflections and ambient occlusion, allowing players to fine-tune their experience.

Beyond these prominent examples, a wealth of other games are receiving substantial upgrades. ‘Lords of the Fallen’ boasts a 40% increase in pixel density, delivering a sharper image, while ‘Marvel Rivals’ will feature a dedicated Pro graphics mode targeting stable 4K at 60fps with Lumen Reflections and aiming for higher resolutions in its 120fps mode. Future titles like ‘Redacted’ promise an astonishing 8K 60fps mode and a 4K 120fps mode, while ‘Returnal’ receives a significant resolution bump to 3072x1728p. Even recently confirmed titles like ‘Diablo IV’ and upcoming releases such as ‘Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’ and ‘Lies of P’ are set to benefit, ensuring a continually expanding catalog of optimized experiences. As Sony continues to roll out details and developers harness the full potential of this advanced hardware, the list of PS5 Pro Enhanced games will undoubtedly grow, solidifying the console’s position as a powerhouse for the most demanding gaming experiences.
